Sleep Happens

2013

Step one: Make an attractive looking place to lay. Step Two: Put on a movie. Step three: watch your child fall asleep peacefully. Or fall asleep yourself because you made such a comfortable pallet.

Austin's sleep pattern has changed pretty drastically over the past month. I wasn't coping well with his schedule being different than mine. I was worrying a lot about his sleep and when it was occurring. I guess you could say I relapsed into old ways of thinking.

Luckily, I have awesome friends who tell me what I need to hear so I can chill out and return to thinking like a rational mother again. "Sleep is going to happen when it's going to happen." Sounds so obvious, but when you're in the throws of the what if's it's hard to think of the obvious, rational answer.

I realized with the help of a good friend the best thing I can do for Austin is make sure he's comfortable. When his eyes look heavy, making sure there are blankets, pillows and soft places available to help him with sleep. Calm and quiet help too.

Now we're back to our regular program of hanging out together when we're awake, whenever that is, without the clock looming over our head.
