Lindsay Wildlife Museum
2013
This weekend was beautiful. The sun was shining, and I think there might have been a slight breeze with the sound of angles singing in it. Just gorgeous.
We all had different things we wanted to do and Monty had a brilliant idea for each of us to pick one thing we wanted to do and we would find a way to make it happen for each person. There were some guidelines like: You couldn't complain while doing the other person's thing and the thing couldn't be crazy, like "take mom to a slaughterhouse." (What?) I was initially skeptical when he suggested this as a way for us all to get what we wanted out of the weekend, but luckily it worked out wonderfully.
We found a place that met every ones needs at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum; Monty wanted a museum, Austin wanted to walk, and I wanted to be outside. This museum takes in native wildlife with a beautiful and spacious park behind it. Done and done.
They had eagles, hawks, owls, bees and foxes to learn about. Austin mentioned he thought it was kinda sad to see the birds they had. He said it's like, "Hey we rescued you, but now we're going to put you where you can see the outside, but you can't ever go there. You can just sit there and dream about what your life used to be like."
I can see that.
I think Austin is looking at either a birds feather or a bee wing under a microscope.
Anyway, back to the non-depressing stuff. They do try to rehabilitate and release the animals brought to the center. Those that can not be released are there to educate. We saw a bald eagle and a grey fox feed while we were standing really close. Austin and I talked about how grumpy eagles and hawks look. Turns out they have a bone that grows where our eyebrows would be to shield their eyes from the sun. Makes sense.
Here Monty and Austin are looking for the queen bee.
Still looking. Ahem...she's over here. Behind the camera.
Next to the park, where we walked and talked and hooped and Austin got to get in his signature photo-bomb.
It was a lovely Saturday indeed.
