Hawaii: Part Six

2013

Our last night in Hawaii was Luau night. Monty tried to rally and join us, but ten minutes in was feeling so sick that he went back to the room. Austin, however was intrigued enough to stay and hang out with me, watch the show and enjoy the food. He even tried some Poi which, I wasn't even interested in trying by the looks of it. Monty did eventually make it back down, just in time for a sudden down pour.

Earlier that night, while talking to a vendor at the hotel about how I liked snorkeling and wished I had found more time to do it while there, he asked if I had been to Poipu Beach. I hadn't! He told me about this place that was 2 miles from our hotel that had reefs that you could swim out to off of the beach. No boats and it was free.  Oh boy!

I went to check it out before hand to see if it was someplace that I would feel comfortable snorkeling alone. There were so many people in the water that I planned to stay near them in case a shark attacked or I was pulled by an undertow out to sea. I told Monty my plan and he was still concerned, so we made a plan that I would call right before I got in the water and if I didn't call within an hour he needed to call in the helicopters.

Fun tide pools full of little sea creatures.

Safety in numbers right? Even if they are all strangers.

I woke up at 7AM, ate breakfast, said goodbye and yes hugged the wait staff, then headed out to Poipu beach to snorkel before we needed to leave for the airport.

Ahhh. I made it and it was soooo worth it!
