A relationship built on trust and love can be just as strong between two people with a few years between them as it can be between two people with decades between them.

When you add in the kindness and patience an adult friend can offer to a child beautiful things can happen.   

The relationship Austin has with his friend Shannon is one of my favorite relationships to see blossom. She's right there beside her boys and their friendship with Austin, while having her own very special friendship with him. 

She showed me what it was like to connect with a child as his friend and it's a wonderful thing to be able to do.
