Big Boss Hat
2013
"You know I don't take pictures on Tuesdays. Only Mondays"
This hat. Oh, this hat. I've been working on it for a month. I've probably frogged it about 10 times at least.
Making this hat has felt a lot like playing a video game. To be more specific, like fighting the boss in a video game. I kept trying and trying only to have my level be the reason I couldn't win.
I needed to level up and the only way that was going to happen was to keep on playing. To keep fighting to find the weaknesses. So, I kept on keeping on. Learning with each do over how I could best this hat and end up with something I could put on my head.
That's right. I've completed this hat twice. Bound off and everything. Stuck it on my head only to discover it wasn't quite right.

This is what I ended up with. I know it's not terrible or anything, but at almost two full skeins of Malabrigo Rasta, it's no joke to put on your head. It's heavy and the length of it pulls down on the crown. I wanted something that I could put all my hair in comfortably that covered my ears to keep them warm too. I totally misjudged how long I need the hat to be to fit those criteria. Twice.
That's right. I've completed this hat twice. Bound off and everything. Stuck it on my head only to discover it wasn't quite right.
I don't know if I have the heart to try to fix this hat. The only good thing that's come from it, is all the learning about patterns and numbers I did. Working with the sturdiest and softest yarn ever- Malabrigo Rasta- helped. I guess those aren't terrible things, even if I don't have a hat I like in the end.
Maybe it's not the end though. Maybe I will fix it. If for nothing else than the bragging rights about besting this boss of a hat.
