Luna
2012
We got a puppy a weeks ago and she's been "Puppy" since then. I was really beginning to get worried that 15 years later we would still be calling her puppy because, as a family, we kinda suck at naming our pets. Our cats are always named for their color; Grey Cat, Orange Cat, Black Cat, the Doberman ended up being Dobie....you get the picture. So, I was thrilled last night when Austin and I came up with her name and it's Luna.
Isn't it perfect?
Luna is the most chill puppy I have ever met. She is just as happy being held as she is being alone outside chasing dandelion seeds fly through the air. Sometimes when I go to let her in from outside she just looks at me as if to say, "No, I'm happy to be out here still."
Maybe she's just like every pup we've ever had, but I have changed and can see all her wonderful puppiness. I am less concerned about having a perfectly obedient dog than I am having a happy-go-lucky- no weird issues having- dog. I know I haven't even thought about training and yet, she comes when she's called, stops when I saw stop. Maybe the fact that I am so happy to be around this dog is why she is so willing to do what I say. She's not scared of punishment or confused about why she's in trouble.

I mean, who could punish this dog? Look at that face!
Seriously though, we are taking a different approach with this dog and it's working out much better. We're using patience and play and creating opportunity for success.
